19th April, 2009 - Vs Redruth
Oakmeadians Ladies continue their league success with a 49-10 victory over Cornish rivals Redruth.
Having never beaten the Cornish side away, the eight hour round trip looked to be a tough one for the local team currently sitting second in the Championship South West 2 Division.
With an early score by Oaks winger, Anna Fagen, the Meyrick Park based team looked set to dominate.
However, the Redruth team hit back with two quick tries leaving Oaks trailing 10-5.
This only fuelled Oakmeadians to play aggressive attacking rugby that resulted in a quick succession of tries from backs Kerry Haymen (2), Cathi Farrer and Jess Fredrikson.
Half time score 25-10.
The second half started well with the Oaks pack dominating at the break down and turning over lots of the opposition ball.
New addition to the Oakmeadians side, England Under 20 Prop, Libby Peak opened the second half scoring with a great piece of strong running to score under the sticks.
Oaks number 10, Claire Dorey, then produced some impressive individual skill to step her opposite number and run in try number 7.
Back of the match, Jess Fredrikson, then secured the game for the Bournemouth side with 2 further runaway tries showing great pace and agility.
Emma Vockins, Captain of Oakmeadians Ladies, said “The ladies showed great courage and skill on Sunday to come back from a try down to then dominate the game and walk away with an impressive victory.
This result has should secure a second place position for us- which will be the best result for the ladies team to date”.
Oakmeadians Ladies final league game will be played as a double header against Bristol side Old Redcliffians on Sunday 26th April. Kick off is at 3pm at Meyrick Park.
7th December 2008 - Vs Supermarines
Oakmeadians Ladies RFC stormed to another firm victory on Sunday 7th December, sitting a comfortable second in their South West Championship division going into the Christmas break.
Oakmeadians produced a solid performance against a well drilled Supermarines Ladies side to walk away with a 41-7 victory.
Oakmeadians backs stole the show on the points board with tries coming from Chambers, Hayman, Frederiksen, Farrer, Dorey, Riggs and Tindall.
A solid first half performance from the Oakmeadians forwards with strong rucking and aggressive defensive play created a solid platform for the Oaks backs to run in 3 tries before half time- score 15-0. The second half saw changes in the Oakmeadians side, with all squad members brought on to develop the depth of the squad, strong performances for all replacements means competition for places in 2009 is going to be fierce.
Three conversations from another strong performance from the Oakmeadians fly half, Dorey, completed the score. Notable performances from captain Emma Vockins and vice captain Cathi Farrer earned them forward and back of the match.Team- Riggs, Fredriksen, Jeffereys, Hayman, Chambers, Dorey, Farrer,
